Using the example of the weekly curriculum to teach preschool students (3 to 5 years old) about the alphabet (letter A to E) and associated Biblical stories, preschool teachers can also use the Student Assessment module  on KidsOnline Teacher app to assess their students’ learning progress in three levels: Emerging–Developing–Proficient. Below are the assessment rubrics in details for Week 1 and in compact format for Week 2 to Week 5.

A sample student report card on KidsOnline Teacher’s app will be like this (link to pdf file) where teacher only needs to tick the relevant cell – saving time and reducing much stress for the teacher!

Week 1: A is for Ark

Learning Goals: student recognize letter A, recall Noah’s Ark, recite verse, join activities.

  1. Alphabet A
  • Emerging: Needs help recognizing A.
  • Developing: Recognizes A, sound uncertain.
  • Proficient: Names A and says /a/.
    Sub-criteria: sees A, says /a/, links A–Ark.
  1. Story Recall
  • Emerging: Listens but forgets details.
  • Developing: Remembers with prompts.
  • Proficient: Retells main parts.
    Sub-criteria: names Noah, mentions animals, rainbow promise.
  1. Memory Verse
  • Emerging: Repeats only with teacher.
  • Developing: Recites partly with help.
  • Proficient: Recites fully.
    Sub-criteria: recalls first line, completes with prompt, full verse.
  1. Participation
  • Emerging: Rarely joins.
  • Developing: Joins with prompting.
  • Proficient: Participates eagerly.
    Sub-criteria: builds ark, sings/claps, animal play.

Week 2: B is for Bible

Learning Goals: students recognize letter B, know Bible as God’s Word, recite verse, join craft/song.

  1. Alphabet B – sees B, says /b/, matches to Bible.
  2. Story Recall – names Bible, says it guides, shows respect.
  3. Verse (Ps 119:105) – repeats after teacher, recites partly, full recite.
  4. Participation – decorates Bible craft, traces B, sings B-I-B-L-E.

Week 3: C is for Creation

Learning Goals: students recognize letter C, recall Creation, recite verse, explore outdoors.

  1. Alphabet C – sees C, says /k/, links to Creation.
  2. Story Recall – recalls day items, says “God made…”, shares “good.”
  3. Verse (Gen 1:31) – repeats, partial, full verse.
  4. Participation – adds to mural, cuts shapes, names creation outside.

Week 4: D is for David

Learning Goals: students recognize letter D, recall David story, recite verse, join music/play.

  1. Alphabet D – sees D, says /d/, links to David.
  2. Story Recall – names David, recalls Goliath, God helps.
  3. Verse (Ps 23:1) – repeats, partial, full verse.
  4. Participation – safe slingshot play, dance, playdough D.

Week 5: E is for Esther

Learning Goals: students recognize letter E, recall Esther story, recite verse, join role-play.

  1. Alphabet E – sees E, says /e/, links to Esther.
  2. Story Recall – names Esther, king, saves people.
  3. Verse (Esth 4:14) – repeats, partial, full verse.
  4. Participation – crown craft, role play queen, echo E words.
